On August 16, 2025, employee volunteers from Offshore Business Processing (OBP) spent roughly four hours at the Marikina River Parks pulling waste from the riverbanks as part of "Luntiang Marikina," the monthly river clean-up run by La Liga Mariquina Inc. The company framed the outing as a response to the aftermath of a run of storms, and as a contribution to keeping one of Metro Manila's most flood-prone rivers clean.
What they did
OBP's account describes an early-morning start on a windy day, with the work lasting about four hours. Food, tools and supplies were provided for the volunteers, some of them shared by the participants themselves. To keep everyone safe and accounted for along the river, the OBP team ran a buddy system throughout the activity. La Liga Mariquina Inc. is a community organisation founded in 2014 that facilitates a monthly clean-up drive with support from residents, student volunteers and partner organisations. Its stated aims are to maintain the Marikina River, foster community involvement, raise environmental awareness and promote sustainable practices. The group's founder framed the invitation in civic terms during the event.
"I'm not asking everyone to join La Liga. I'm asking everyone to take part in nation-building."

Why the Marikina River matters
